PAR is issuing and supervising (mostly urban) design projects in settings in the South. Due to the complexity students are encouraged to work in teams of two to four and to attend the regular supervision workshops. |

Thema: urban
visions for shanghai Lecturers: Prof. Dr. Kosta Mathéy, MSc ETH Arch, MAUD Christoph Hesse Partner: Tongji Univesity, Shanghai Termin : Donnerstags 14:00 – 18:00 Beginn: 22.04.2010 Raum: PAR seminar room Sprache: English / Deutsch Credits: 12 CP Max. Teil- nehmerzahl: 20 Program: A vital, mixed-used (public services, schools, kindergarten, commercial areas, sport facilities, food production), reasonably dense, non-generic, public amenity rich, evenhanded choice of housing types, attractive to multiple economic and demographic segments, environment protecting and conservation minded new urban neighborhood for Shanghai. In other words, the studio explores the qualities, programs, planning and design strategies that are necessary to creating good places to live in Shanghai with its substantial growth pressures. The studio intends to find inspiration in the riverbank setting and the adjusted area of the World Expo, the Bund and Pudong financial district. This context might contain the potential to accommodate the changing needs of the urban dweller of the future, as modern societies continue their shift from industrial-based economies to service and lifestyle-based economies and their requirements. The challenge of the studio is to discover this potential and to transform it into a green neighborhood of the future. |

Diploma projects run over a period of 10 weeks and mostly work on a
task proposed by one of the faculty departments. PAR issues an urban
design diploma task in the winter semester 2005/2006. Given that
several teams or individual students work on the same task, a design
competition situation is simulated best.Alternatively, students may
choose an individual task under the condition that the topic is so
specific that it cannot be proposed to all students and that the
student can convincingly show a personal motivation to pick the
project (i.e. intimate knowledge of the location or intended
professional career) 2005 Diploma Task |
